Submission Process!

Everything Is NINJA will be a 6 X 9 perfect bound book that will be available in all the major databases, thus making it available through Amazon1 and in major book sellers. This publication will be of high quality and a work in which contributors can be proud to see their work.

That's a good thing--being able to be proud to be included. The project departs from Double-Edged Publishing's normal practice in that no contributor compensation will be available other than a byline. This tongue-in-check project promises to be great fun for all involved. In addition to adding a title to our catalog that will appeal to a new demographic, we are hoping EIN will generate "buzz" at cons and provide good PR overall.

If you are still interested, here are the submission guidelines proper.

What We Want

This project is intended to (tongue firmly in cheek) prove that EVERYTHING is related to, equal to, or infiltrated by ninjas and the "ninja spirit." (Click Here for an example of an article that might be included in Everything Is NINJA.) Humor, dry and sarcastic perhaps, is vital. While submissions should have an air of fact, they should also obviously be intended as farce, irony, or outright balderdash.

Length and Form

How long can you pull it off? This project has the risk of quickly becoming tiresome and boring. Works of exposition (prose) need to be brisk and get to the point fast. If ever "leave them wanting more" applied, it will be in this project. That said, there is no word limit restrictions.

A few more comments...

Essays (like the example): Go more for the scholarly sound than not. Try to make the essay sound like an authoritative proof of whatever claim you are making related to Everything Is Ninja.

Poetry: This is not the place to try out difficult form that obscure the meaning you are going for. Poems that leave the reader saying, "What? I don't get it." won't work.

Cartoons: Go for it. High quality illustration AND content are MUSTS. Be sure to follow format rules!

Illustrations, Photos: Be creative! A picture of an empty parking lot with the caption, "Ninja marching band practice." might work. Follow format rules.

Ficion: Anything of this ilk will need to rely on the theme that "everything is ninja." A serious story about ninjas will not fit. A story with the surpirse ninja involvement might.

The key is to send in QUALITY work.

DON'T Send

No profanity. No sex.

Serious works.

Feel Free to Include

Footnotes (which might make mention of previously published works and where to buy them)

Phrases like, "Why doing research for my fiction novel, Dream Ranger, I came across some interesting information about ninjas."

With the exception of the above "DON'T Send" list, I (Bill Snodgrass, project editor) will read anything until I don't think it fits. The main thing I'll be looking for is something that entertains and holds my (scattered) attention. I am imagining a strong leaning towareds humor, obously.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Please read and FOLLOW the steps below. While I making submission on you is important, making it easy on the editor (sorry) is vital. If you will follow the six steps below, the execution of this project can proceed with minimal complication all around.

Step 1: Ready your submission.

Prose:

  1. Standard manuscript format! Standard manuscript format EXCEPT: (A.) Make italics italics. (A.) Make bold bold.
  2. Save as RTF (Rich Text Format). This is the ONLY format I will open.

Images:

  1. Make them 300 DPI no more than 4 inches wide and no more than 7 inches tall. If you need a caption, size accordingly.
  2. Save as JPG (JPEG) file format.

Step 2: Start and email to: snodgrass@doubleedgedpublishing.com. Set the subject of the email to "Everything Is Ninja." (I will open my SPAM filter to let those through.)

Step 3: Copy the text to the right and paste it into the body of the email. FILL IN THE INFORMATION NEEDED.

Step 4: Attach your submission.

Step 5: If sending an illustration or image, and if you need it to be caption, add below the text from Step 3 "CAPTION" and add whatever instructions you need and the caption.

Step 6: Wait. In a few days, I will reply saying your manuscript has been received. When the project closes, I will notify those whose work has been accepted and will update the EIN home page with the selected works. It is VERY unlikely that I will provide SPECIFIC FEEDBACK on declined submissions.
